1 January – New Year’s Day 15 March- Anniversary of the Revolution of 1848-49. The revolution in Hungary turned into a war for independence from Habsburg rule. Easter Sunday and Monday – it is still a living special Hungarian folk tradition that boys sprinkle girls with a bucket of water. They get hand-decorated eggs in return. The inside of the eggs is removed with a special technique and then the shell is decorated.
